I am too old to have see your dad live but I knew the first time I saw you (12/16/2006) That I was in for a treat with many years too come! I was right! you have come to Austin several times and we've been there every time! Thanks so much! PLEASE Keep it up and greasy!!

Oneman

This is a true story...

Back in '79 when Sleep Dirt first was released I had just finished junior high and had moved from the bucolic Lord of the Flies dreamland that was Huntington Beach to the wilds of Bellflower to go to high school. I opened my copy of Sleep Dirt, gently set the needle down on an actual record, and put on my headphones while sitting in an ancient beanbag I had received as a token of love from my mom during the super-bitchen 1970's. When "Sleep Dirt" came on I fell through some sort of Twilight Zone time-space continuum warpage while being simultaneously amazed and bewildered. Not to be confused with Dazed and Confused mind you... that's another story for a different beanbag. While deep in Zappa trance the song imploded and stopped abruptly, I sat bolt upright, and screamed "NO!" I frightened my cat and at least several neighbors, one of whom actually knocked on my window to see if I was alright. I wasn't.

It's really hard to explain the sensation of being on the cusp of entering some alternate world and then having the door snap out of existence. The brief exchange between Frank and James Youman at the end of the tune haunts me to this day.

Thanks for releasing this Dweezil, perhaps I can find my way back to that world again...
