THE BOOT

"The Boot" Written by Dweezil Zappa
Dweezil Zappa - Guitar and Bass
Josh Freese - Drums
"The Boot" is an unreleased song from my Confessions album. Recorded in 1990, it's a fun throwback to the guitar riffing 80's feel. Charvel Guitars were instrumental in creating instruments to fuel the biggest guitar riffs of that decade, and they asked me to partner with them to launch their new American Neo Classic San Dimas SD1 series.

This is a cool deep cut — feels very “time capsule” in the best way.
That whole 80s-inspired guitar riff vibe mixed with a 1990 recording date makes it sound like it sits right on the edge of two eras: when shred culture was still strong, but production was starting to shift into the 90s polish. And having Deizel/Zappa handling multiple roles (guitar, bass, and mixing) gives it that very hands-on, almost experimental studio feel.
Also, Josh Freese on drums is always a win — his playing tends to lock even the most chaotic ideas into something tight and listenable.
Charvel jumping in with a San Dimas SD1 collab also makes sense in context — that brand is basically woven into that whole “hot-rodded guitar” identity of the era.
I sometimes fall into similar music rabbit holes online, jumping between gear talk, old recordings, and modern demos — even ending up on random sites like https://rockyspin.com.gr/ while exploring different corners of the web. The internet really connects all these niche music worlds in unexpected ways.
Great tune & riffs therein. Certainly had the vibe of that Confessions album. I played that cd to death in the day, and it must have run away from me because I haven't seen it in decades. I loved "Bad Girl". Thanks for this nugget as a reminder- relic of a still proud civilization.
