I thought I couldn't be more impressed, but the Paul Gilbert episode comes along... The reverence for Ed from the likes of Vai and Gilbert is therapeutic. Excellent work, Dweezil. Ed would appreciate your efforts. He certainly saw something in you and it's apparent in the level of respect you honor our hero.  Thank you!

HI John,

Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying the series. My guest next week is Blues Saraceno and we go deep into Women And Children First!

That Paul Gilbert episode was truly wonderful. In all my years focusing on the guitar aspect of VH, my mind was blown as he got downright forensic with his appreciation of David Lee Roth’s vocal phrasing. It was so inspiring to hear him take that aspect and apply into his guitar playing. Just jaw dropping! That episode was joyous. You’re knocking these out of the park Dweezil. Thank you!

Hi Buddy,

So glad you're enjoying the series! Paul did some great stuff with the DLR phrases! It was fun to talk with him about VH II. My guest next week is Blues Saraceno!

This episode with Paul Gilbert is fantastic. Absolutely interesting and insightful commentary. Curious: what was Paul going through for his tone?

Dweezil

Hi Timothy,

I'm not exactly sure what he was playing through since his amp wasn't visible on screen (we recorded remotely). I'm going to guess it was a Marshall with his standard pedal board. He was playing an Ibanez strat style guitar without a locking tremelo. I did alter the sound of the guitar for the epsiode during the post prodcution.  I was trying to create an homage to the first 2 VH albums by making his mono guitar stereo by adding reverb and delay on the right side.

Sounded killer. Many thanks. Really enjoying the podcast so far.

Thanks!!!

Hi, Dweezil-
I just sprang for the 5150 package. Just wanted to say thank you for doing all this. I was utterly obsessed with Edward in my high school days back in the 80s as a tadpole guitar player. Over the years, my personal music style took a a different path from VH-style rock, but I always kept a spot in my heart for Ed and the band. Since his passing I've been immersed in the tributes to him, reassessing my VH albums...basically revisiting my youth and falling in love all over again. When I heard about Runnin' With The Dweezil I knew you were the perfect guy to undertake this project. I'm just one episode in, and I'm loving it. THANK YOU for all this effort. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes (and the Helix presets). Be well, sir.
